CT commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.

CT announced that it has furthered its commitment to environmental transparency by disclosing its environmental impact through CDP.

As part of its commitment to deliver a net-zero economy by 2050, CT submitted various near and long-term targets on greenhouse gas emission reduction for review, which have been validated by SBTi, a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. 

Disclosing greenhouse gas emissions: a necessary response to increasing demand for environmental transparency

The recent IPCC report, described by the UN as “code red for humanity”, underscores our precarious proximity to the 1.5°C global temperature threshold. Despite this urgency, the report suggests that averting severe consequences is still possible with swift emission cuts—halving global emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2050 are critical. A collective commitment is essential, urging global organizations to align with science-based targets for a 1.5°C limit and net-zero emissions, offering a pathway to a sustainable future amidst the looming climate crisis.

With a record 23000+ companies disclosing through CDP in 2023, disclosing data on environmental impact is now a business norm. CT has disclosed through CDP since 2022, and in 2023 completed CDP’s Climate Change questionnaire. CT’s data will be added to the most comprehensive inventory of self-reported environmental data in the world – helping to drive action through greater transparency.

In its disclosure, CT shared a complete greenhouse gas emissions profile. The greenhouse gas protocol has been applied in the reporting of scopes 1, 2 and 3 with the organizational boundary for the greenhouse gas calculation including all CT facilities which are under operational control.

CT is taking vital steps to help deliver a net-zero economy.

After careful review, the SBTi has approved CT’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, considering them in line with reaching net-zero by 2050.  

Near-Term Targets

• CT commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
• CT commits to increase active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 21% in 2022 to 100% by 2030.
• CT also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.

Long-Term Targets

• CT commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year.
• CT also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe.

To ensure maximum transparency, accountability and corporate leadership, CT will publicly report progress against targets on a yearly basis, along with the company-wide greenhouse emissions inventory.
